The Mimikay Political Movement has commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for advancing the state’s infrastructure development agenda following the successful groundbreaking ceremony of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The ceremony, held on Monday, January 12, 2026, marked a significant milestone in the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing economic activities across the state. The event attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, political stakeholders, community leaders, and residents, who turned out in large numbers to witness the commencement of the long-anticipated project.
Speaking on behalf of the movement, its leader, Hon. Oghenekaro Akpososo, described the Otovwodo Junction Flyover as a strategic and people-oriented project that will significantly transform transportation and commercial activities in Ughelli and its environs. He noted that Otovwodo Junction is one of the busiest traffic points in Delta State, serving as a critical link between several communities and major roads, and has for years suffered from heavy congestion, especially during peak hours.
According to him, the construction of the flyover demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s clear understanding of the daily challenges faced by motorists, traders, and residents in the area. “This project is not just about concrete and steel; it is about improving the quality of life of our people, saving time, reducing accidents, and opening up Ughelli for more economic opportunities,” Akpososo said.
Construction work has already commenced at the site, with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, a reputable construction firm, fully mobilised. The early presence of equipment and personnel, stakeholders noted, reflects the state government’s seriousness and readiness to deliver the project within schedule. To further minimise traffic disruption during construction, the Delta State Government had earlier approved the construction of four adjoining roads around the Otovwodo Junction to serve as alternative routes.
The Otovwodo Flyover is one of two major flyover projects recently approved by the Delta State Executive Council, alongside the Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor. These projects add to the three flyovers nearing completion at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction in Warri and its environs, underscoring what many have described as an unprecedented infrastructure drive under the Oborevwori administration.
Hon. Akpososo also used the occasion to acknowledge the efforts and contributions of members of the Mimikay Political Movement who worked tirelessly to ensure a warm and organised reception for the Governor during the visit. He specifically praised Comrade Ogheneochuko Ojaemo Palmer, Deputy Director General, Diaspora, of the Mimikay Political Movement, for sponsoring the movement’s activities for the welcoming of the Governor.
According to Akpososo, Comrade Palmer’s support reflects the growing involvement of diaspora stakeholders in grassroots development and political mobilisation. “The sponsorship and coordination of today’s activities by Comrade Ogheneochuko Ojaemo Palmer show that our movement is united, forward-looking, and committed to supporting leadership that delivers results for the people,” he stated.
Members of the Mimikay Political Movement described Governor Oborevwori as a leader whose policies and projects align with the needs and aspirations of ordinary Deltans. They noted that beyond easing traffic and improving road safety, the Otovwodo Flyover is expected to stimulate business growth, attract investment, and create job opportunities during and after construction.
Residents and traders in Ughelli expressed optimism that the project would bring lasting relief from traffic bottlenecks and improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities. Many lauded the Governor for prioritising infrastructure in key urban centres while also paying attention to road networks that connect rural communities.
As the project moves into full construction, the Mimikay Political Movement reaffirmed its support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration, pledging continued collaboration and grassroots engagement to ensure that development initiatives are protected and sustained for the benefit of present and future generations of Deltans.
