Oborevwori to Perform Groundbreaking for ₦59.7bn Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover January 19

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Monday, January 19, perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover along the Lagos–Asaba Expressway in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.

The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. (Barr.) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the ceremony would signal the commencement of full-scale construction by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

Oghenesivbe said the project is part of the governor’s ₦230 billion mega infrastructure development initiative designed to ease traffic congestion in major towns and cities across the state.

He explained that the Uromi Junction section of the Trunk “A” Lagos–Asaba Expressway has over the years remained a major safety concern for motorists, especially articulated vehicles and heavy-duty trucks conveying goods across the country.

According to him, the sloppy and unprotected nature of the junction has led to several accidents, including incidents involving petroleum tankers and other inflammable cargoes, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of properties worth billions of naira.

The Bureau Director-General assured that the flyover project would significantly enhance road safety, provide protected pedestrian walkways, stimulate commercial and socio-economic activities, and improve the aesthetic outlook of Agbor and its environs.

He further noted that the Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover is the most expensive single flyover project undertaken by the Oborevwori administration so far, adding that more landmark projects would be unveiled under the state’s ₦1.7 trillion 2026 budget, with ₦1.6 trillion allocated to capital development.

Oghenesivbe reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to equitable development across the three senatorial districts of the state, in line with his ward-to-ward and statewide campaign promises during the 2023 general elections.

The state government urged invited guests, political leaders, and senior government officials to be seated by 10:30 a.m., as the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to commence promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
