…Free Trade Zone Welcomes First Anchor Company
By Felix Ofou
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved and released the sum of N2.065 billion to facilitate the immediate commencement of operations by Delta Wire Industries Limited, the first anchor tenant of the Kwale Industrial Park and Free Trade Zone.
Reliable sources revealed that the governor has directed the company to begin full operations within six months, as part of efforts to fast-track the activation of the industrial park — one of the administration’s flagship projects designed to promote investment, manufacturing, and economic diversification in the state.
The governor’s approval represents a major milestone in his administration’s drive to boost local production, generate employment, and strengthen business linkages both within and beyond Delta State.
By ensuring the take-off of Delta Wire Industries, the government aims to attract complementary investments that will broaden the industrial value chain and promote backward and forward linkages across various sectors.
Stakeholders in the state’s business and industrial sectors have commended the move, describing it as a bold and strategic decision toward realizing the vision of transforming Delta into an industrial hub in the Niger Delta region.
Conceived as a free trade and manufacturing zone, the Kwale Industrial Park is expected to host industries in steel, wire, petrochemicals, and agro-processing, among others.
Observers note that the commencement of operations by Delta Wire Industries will not only create direct employment but also stimulate ancillary businesses in logistics, supply, and services — boosting economic activities across Ndokwa West and neighboring communities.
With the governor’s directive for immediate action and a six-month operational target, Delta State is poised for a new phase of industrial growth driven by public-private collaboration and sustained government support.
Governor Oborevwori’s intervention aligns with his MORE Agenda, which emphasizes Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security to attract investors and drive sustainable growth.
As Delta Wire Industries prepares to commence full operations, expectations are high that the initiative will herald a new industrial era in Delta State — one that promises lasting socio-economic benefits for its people.
