The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false and misleading a report by SaharaReporters alleging an internal crisis arising from the purported imposition of ward and local government executives ahead of the party’s scheduled congresses.
In a statement issued on Friday, the All Progressives Congress Delta State described the publication dated February 13, 2026, as unfounded, speculative, and designed to sow discord within the party. The APC said the report was built on rumours and distortions that misrepresent the party’s internal processes.
The party leadership clarified that, in line with its constitution and official guidelines, a duly constituted stakeholders’ meeting was held on January 23, 2026. According to the APC, leaders and stakeholders from the state’s three senatorial districts unanimously adopted a consensus arrangement to ensure peaceful, transparent, and hitch-free ward and local government congresses.
The statement noted that the consensus approach—recognized by the party’s constitution—promotes inclusiveness, strengthens cohesion, and prevents rancour associated with divisive contests. The APC added that the arrangement has been successfully implemented across wards and local government areas with outcomes widely accepted by stakeholders.
Reacting to claims of imposition, the party said the consensus process was a product of broad consultations at the grassroots and not an act of unilateral decision-making. It stressed that no individual or group was empowered to impose candidates outside collective stakeholder decisions.
The Delta APC also rejected allegations that the congress process was hijacked, executive lists manipulated, or outcomes influenced through financial inducements. The leadership maintained it neither authorized nor condoned intimidation, coercion, or any form of anti-party activity, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on such conduct.
Reaffirming its commitment to unity and internal democracy, the party urged members and the public to disregard the SaharaReporters story, insisting it does not reflect the true state of affairs within the Delta APC. The party said it remains focused on conducting credible congresses to strengthen its structures ahead of future political engagements.
The APC further called on media organizations to uphold responsible journalism by verifying facts before publication and avoiding reports capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity.
