Delta Govt Targets N100bn for Security Support — Bureau Chief

…Tompolo’s N10bn donation worthy of emulation

The Delta State Government has set a target of N100 billion in the first phase of its fundraising drive to strengthen the operations of security agencies through the State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF).

Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, disclosed this during the Orientation Panorama programme on Voice of Delta Radio in Asaba on Wednesday.

According to him, while Delta remains safe for investment, tourism and other socio-economic activities, the government is taking proactive steps to further bolster security in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.

Oghenesivbe commended Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) and Tantita Security Services Limited for their unprecedented N10 billion donation to the Trust Fund, describing it as a remarkable show of patriotism and corporate responsibility.

The N10 billion contribution will significantly boost the state’s security architecture. We urge other corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to emulate this gesture as we work towards the N100 billion target,” he said.

He noted that since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori has consistently supported security agencies with patrol vehicles, logistics and other operational resources. He added that 0.5% of the state’s monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is also dedicated to the DSSTF.

The DG explained that the law establishing the Trust Fund was enacted in 2013, providing a legal framework for stronger public-private collaboration to improve security operations with modern equipment, advanced technology, training and other support tools.

Reiterating government’s commitment, Oghenesivbe said the fund will prioritize the acquisition of surveillance gadgets, patrol vehicles and communication devices, alongside capacity development for security personnel and community vigilante groups across the 25 local government areas.

He applauded Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and other security agencies for their sustained efforts in combating crime, noting recent arrests and recoveries of sophisticated weapons.

Security remains a top priority for the Oborevwori administration,” he stressed. “With collective effort, the N100 billion target is achievable, and we will continue to invest in peace and safety for the benefit of all Deltans.”
