The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as the ongoing transformation across the state through strategic infrastructure development.
Izeze gave the commendation on Friday during the inauguration of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road and the access road linking the Second Niger Bridge in Oko Kingdom, Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the commissioner described the newly completed road as a major intervention designed to address flooding challenges in the community while improving connectivity and boosting economic activities.
He explained that the road was deliberately constructed above the level of the devastating 2012 flood that submerged several buildings in the area.
According to him, the elevated design of the road would help prevent future flooding from affecting the route.
“If you witnessed the 2012 flood, many buildings in Oko were submerged. But the road you see today has been raised above the level of that flood,” he said.
“From all available statistical parameters, no flood will overrun this road by the grace of God. That is what we mean when we say we are building an ark for the people.”
Izeze noted that the large turnout of residents during the commissioning ceremony reflected the community’s appreciation of the development projects executed by the Oborevwori administration.
He said many residents openly expressed their support for the governor, acknowledging the positive impact of his infrastructure initiatives on their lives.
“When we were coming in for this inauguration, we saw a very large crowd coming from the Oko market area. The people were fully mobilised and excited because they appreciate what the governor has done for them,” he added.
The commissioner also commended staff of the Delta State Ministry of Works, particularly the Department of Highways and Urban Roads, for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
He noted that the quality of the road project reflects the diligence of the ministry’s engineers and technical team, as well as the contractor that executed the work.
Izeze reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration remains committed to delivering durable infrastructure that will improve transportation, enhance agricultural productivity and uplift the overall quality of life of residents across Delta State.
