ASABA — Obakpor Engineering Limited has emerged winner of the Best Indigenous Construction Company Award 2025, earning commendation for its commitment to quality service delivery and technological innovation in road and bridge construction.


The award was presented to the company on Wednesday in Asaba by the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), during the closing ceremony of a three-day capacity building workshop jointly organized by the Delta State Government and CIISM.


Speaking at the event, Chairman of Obakpor Engineering Limited, Chief John Oguma, lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to the growth of indigenous construction firms through the local content policy embedded in his MORE Agenda.


Chief Oguma, represented by a senior management staff of the company, Chief John Ewenede, noted that Oborevwori’s policy has created thousands of jobs for skilled and unskilled workers, suppliers, and food vendors across construction sites in the state.


“Obakpor Engineering commends Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to expanding the operational capacity of local firms through government patronage, while also fostering collaboration with multinational companies such as Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and CCECC,” he said.


He added that Obakpor Engineering, which was established in 1991, has continued to deliver projects that meet international standards, citing the ongoing construction of the 500-metre Orere Bridge linking communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi Local Government Areas.


“Our pre-fabricated slabs are produced with cutting-edge technology and meet global standards. With over 34 years of experience, we remain the leading indigenous construction firm in Delta State,” he assured.


In her remarks, CIISM President, Ambassador Dr. (Mrs.) Temile Uduogho Oritseweyinmi, described Obakpor Engineering as a foremost indigenous construction company with a consistent record of excellence spanning over three decades.


She explained that the company was selected for the award after extensive performance assessment and verification of indigenous contractors in the state, urging its leadership to sustain its high standards and professional ethics.


Highlighting the company’s contributions to corporate governance and infrastructure development, the CIISM President, alongside the Institute’s Registrar, Dr. Adelanke Oyintoke, also inducted Chief John Oguma into the CIISM Distinguished Fellows Hall of Fame, recognizing his visionary leadership and commitment to excellence.


The awards and induction ceremony formed part of activities marking the end of the DELCOM 2025 Workshop, themed “Strategic Communication in the Digital Age: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Digital Tools for Effective Leadership.”


The workshop, attended by 154 participants drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the NDLEA, Police, political appointees, journalists, social media influencers, and online publishers, was flagged off by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday, October 6, while the closing ceremony was presided over by Chief Patrick Ukah, fnipr, former Secretary to the State Government and Director General of the Delta State Capital Development Agency.


Other top management members of Obakpor Engineering Limited present at the ceremony included Dr. Ricardo Oguma (Managing Director), Matthew Oguma, Matthew Kwode, Ochuko Omorere, Julius Atiku, and Sylvester Uzo.
