We Are Committed To Achieving Prosperity Across Delta — Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring prosperity and sustainable development across the state.

The Governor made the remark on Friday during the official presentation of the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Engr. Michael Orugbo, Okporua I, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, at Otor-Udu in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Governor Oborevwori said his administration’s MORE Agenda is driving progress through key infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, markets, and healthcare facilities that are enhancing mobility, stimulating trade, and improving the welfare of citizens.

He said:

“Under our MORE Agenda, my administration remains committed to Udu’s prosperity. Across Udu, we are witnessing progress in road construction, the Udu Harbour Market, healthcare facilities, and other projects that are easing transportation, stimulating local trade, creating jobs, and bringing government closer to the people.”

The Governor particularly commended the successful take-off of the Federal Medical Centre, Ovwian, describing it as “a beacon of healthcare excellence for Udu and its neighbouring communities.”

While congratulating HRM Okporua I on his enthronement, Governor Oborevwori described the ceremony as “a reaffirmation of heritage and a celebration of unity, peace, and progress.”

He praised the monarch’s emergence in accordance with the 1979 Chieftaincy Edict, which he said demonstrated the wisdom and unity of the Udu people.

“Your Majesty, your emergence from one of Udu’s seven ruling houses reflects the trust and confidence of your people. As an engineer, Justice of Peace, and Papal Knight, you bring intellect, humility, and innovation to the throne. You are both a guardian of tradition and a visionary leader,” the Governor said.

He urged the monarch to lead with fairness, promote peace, empower the youths, and continue to advance development in the kingdom.

“The strength of any kingdom lies in its people. I call on all sons and daughters of Udu to support their monarch, uphold lawful authority, and contribute to community growth. A united people empower their king, and together, progress becomes inevitable,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori further described Udu Kingdom as a vital part of Delta’s economic landscape, rich in tradition and culture, as well as a major industrial and commercial hub. He highlighted the presence of the Delta Steel Company, oil and gas facilities, and thriving small and medium-scale enterprises as proof of the area’s economic significance.

He also assured that his administration is working to sustain peace in the region.

“We are working to resolve the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh boundary dispute and maintain peace in Ayama, Epame, and beyond. Peace is the bedrock of progress, and I am confident that under your reign, Udu will flourish as a beacon of harmony,” he stated.

The Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, reaffirmed the council’s support for the Governor’s MORE Agenda, describing Udu as a dependable partner in achieving the state’s development goals.

Earlier, the President-General of Udu Communities, Evang. Andrew Dorkie, in a welcome address, expressed appreciation to the state government for approving the reconstruction of the Udu Main Road to ECN Junction. He also lauded Governor Oborevwori for resolving leadership issues in the Union of Udu Communities, reconstituting the Udu Traditional Council, and addressing the long-standing Aladja-Ogbe-Ijoh boundary dispute.
