Hon. Akpososo Oghenekaro Appeals to Governor Oborevwori for More Factories and Political Appointments in Delta State

Asaba, Delta State – September 1, 2025 – In a passionate plea aimed at boosting economic development and addressing local grievances, Hon. Akpososo Oghenekaro has called on Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to establish more factories across the state to enhance job creation. He also urged an increase in political appointments for residents of Ughelli, highlighting complaints from the Afisere community about inadequate representation.

Hon. Oghenekaro, a prominent community leader and former political appointee, emphasized the urgent need for industrial growth in Delta State. "Our state is blessed with abundant resources, yet unemployment remains a scourge among our youth," he stated. "I appeal to His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to prioritize the creation of more factories.

This will not only generate thousands of jobs but also stimulate local economies and reduce youth restiveness."

Hon. Oghenekaro pointed out that Delta State's strategic location and natural endowments, including oil and gas reserves, make it an ideal hub for manufacturing industries such as agro-processing, textiles, and petrochemicals. He referenced successful models in neighboring states like Lagos and Ogun, where industrial zones have significantly lowered unemployment rates. "By investing in factories, we can harness our agricultural potential—cassava, rubber, and palm oil—and create value chains that benefit our people directly," he added.

In addition to economic development, the leader addressed political inclusivity, particularly in Ughelli.

He noted that residents of Afisere, a vibrant community within Ughelli, have voiced frustrations over what they perceive as marginalization in state appointments. "The people of Afisere are hardworking and loyal Deltans, but they feel disconnected from the dividends of democracy," Hon. Oghenekaro said. "They complain of not feeling the impact of good representation. Increasing political appointments from this area would foster a sense of belonging and ensure equitable distribution of opportunities."

The appeal comes amid Governor Oborevwori's ongoing "MORE Agenda," which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. Critics and supporters alike have praised the administration's efforts in infrastructure and security, but calls for job creation have grown louder in rural areas like Ughelli.
