Delta State Must Sustain Peace for Progress — Ifeajika

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, will continue to prioritize the peace the state has enjoyed for over two decades, his Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, has said.

Appearing on The Faculty on Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, on Wednesday, Ifeajika recalled the Warri crisis between the Ijaws and Itsekiris from 1997 to 1999, calling it a dark chapter in the state’s history.

He noted that Oborevwori, who witnessed the crisis growing up in Warri, understands the importance of peace and development, and has vowed that such hostilities will not be allowed to return under his administration.

“The Governor’s comments were only an appeal to sustain peace till 2031 so that successive leaders can build on it,” Ifeajika said, urging all stakeholders to focus on dialogue rather than division.

He stressed that sustainable peace in Warri and across Delta is essential for meaningful development, warning against misinterpreting the Governor’s message or inciting conflict.
