Hon. Akpososo Oghenekaro Issues Heartfelt Appeal for Peaceful Coexistence in Delta State

Warri, Delta State – August 29, 2025 – In a stirring call for unity amid lingering political tensions, Hon. Akpososo Oghenekaro, a prominent philanthropist, businessman, and political advocate, has urged supporters and followers of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to embrace peaceful coexistence. The appeal, released through a public statement from his Mimikay Organization, emphasizes the need for harmony in Delta State to foster continued development and progress.

Hon. Oghenekaro, widely known as Mimikay and the Chairman/CEO of Mimikay Groups & Mimikay Oil & Gas Limited, highlighted the divisive aftermath of the 2023 gubernatorial election, where Oborevwori of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious over Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC). "As Deltans, we are one family bound by our shared heritage and aspirations," Oghenekaro stated. "The rivalry between supporters of our esteemed leaders must not erode the fabric of our society. Let us set aside grudges and work together for the greater good of Delta State."

In his heartfelt message, Oghenekaro praised Governor Oborevwori's administration for its transformative impact since taking office in 2023, positioning these achievements as a compelling reason for continued support and potential re-election in 2027. "Governor Oborevwori's leadership has not only stabilized our state but propelled it forward with prudence and vision," he said. "These accomplishments are a testament to why every Deltan should rally behind him – they demonstrate a commitment to inclusive growth that benefits all, regardless of political affiliation."

Key achievements highlighted by Hon. Oghenekaro include:

Fiscal Discipline and Debt Management: Under Oborevwori's watch, Delta State has maintained fiscal responsibility without borrowing from banks in the first 18 months of his tenure. He inherited a debt of N465 billion and has already paid off N130 billion, with plans to clear the rest by 2027. This prudent management has blocked financial leakages, saving billions for infrastructure projects.

Infrastructure Development: Mega road projects, including three flyovers at DSC roundabout, PTI Junction, and Enerhen in Warri and Effurun, constructed by Julius Berger at a cost of about N78 billion. Additional works include improvements to Bowen and Benin roads in Sapele, the near-completion of the Kwale-Beneku bridge linking Ndokwa West and East, and rehabilitation of rural roads alongside expansions of urban dual carriageways.

Healthcare Advancements: Delta State ranks first in Nigeria and the West African subregion for its contributory health commission. The governor won a $400,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for excellence in primary healthcare. Initiatives include N3 billion for rehabilitating 150 primary health centers and free maternal care for pregnant women and children up to age 5.

Social and Economic Empowerment: Over 850,000 Deltans have benefited from the D-CARES program and other social investments, with a 205% increase in beneficiaries to 110,841. N500 million was provided to 5,000 small businesses, and bursary awards were extended to over 32,000 students. Vocational training and starter packs for youths have lifted many from poverty, alongside investments in agriculture, electrification, clean energy, and sports infrastructure.

Economic Standing: Delta State now stands as the fourth largest economy in Nigeria, with strategic investments driving growth across sectors.

"These are not just projects; they are lifelines that touch the vulnerable and underserved, inspiring hope and progress across our 25 local government areas," Oghenekaro emphasized. "By voting for or supporting Governor Oborevwori, we invest in a future where Delta thrives economically, socially, and peacefully. His trailblazing path, including being the first Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly to become governor, shows divine grace at work for our people."

Looking Ahead

As Delta State navigates this new political era, the collaboration between Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori holds the key to unlocking the state’s potential. Hon. Oghenekaro’s commendation of their leadership and his call for unity set a positive tone for the APC’s future in Delta State. By working together, Omo-Agege and Oborevwori can strengthen the party, deliver on their promises, and foster a culture of peace and progress.

The success of this collaboration will depend on the willingness of both leaders to prioritize the interests of Deltans over personal ambitions. It will also require the active support of their followers, who must embrace unity and reject divisive tendencies. As Delta State looks toward the 2027 elections, the unity of the APC under Omo-Agege and Oborevwori could position the state as a model of political stability and inclusive development in Nigeria. “Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is a political giant whose contributions to Delta State and Nigeria cannot be overstated,” Oghenekaro said. “His leadership as Deputy Senate President and his commitment to the APC’s growth in Delta State have laid a strong foundation for the party’s success. We are proud of his achievements and his unwavering dedication to the people of Delta.”

Hon. Oghenekaro’s message is a clarion call for a new chapter in Delta State’s political journey—one defined by partnership, peace, and prosperity. As he concluded, “Let us come together as one family in the APC and as one people in Delta State. Together, we can achieve greatness and build a future that makes every Deltan proud.”

Oghenekaro called on followers of Senator Omo-Agege, a respected figure in Delta politics, to join hands with Oborevwori's supporters. "Senator Omo-Agege has contributed immensely to our state, and his vision aligns with peace and development. Let us honor both leaders by choosing dialogue over discord."

The appeal has been welcomed by political observers, who see it as a timely intervention to reduce tensions in the state. Hon. Oghenekaro, known for his philanthropy and advocacy, including recent calls for improved security under Oborevwori, reiterated his commitment to Delta's unity. "Peace is the foundation of prosperity. Together, we can build a Delta that shines for all."
