Izeze Hails Oborevwori’s Courage as Ayakoromo Bridge Records Major Construction Milestones

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his uncommon courage and audacity in executing complex infrastructure projects, as construction progresses steadily on the Ayakoromo Bridge.

The bridge links Egbo-Ide in Ughelli South Local Government Area to Ayakoromo community in Burutu Local Government Area.

Izeze gave the commendation during an inspection of the ongoing project, which he carried out alongside his Technical Assistant, Engr. Ejovi Adasen; Deputy Director, Highways, Engr. Eghwrudje Ojarigho; and other senior officials of the Ministry of Works.

Describing Governor Oborevwori as an “unusual governor,” Izeze said the Ayakoromo Bridge exemplifies the governor’s bold leadership and willingness to take on challenging projects others might avoid.

“This is not just about overcoming fear; it is a clear demonstration of audacity and courage. His Excellency has the boldness to take on very tasking projects. That is why I call him an unusual governor,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that major milestones had been achieved on the project, including the completion of demolitions and all required integrity tests, which enabled full-scale construction to resume.

According to him, about 1.5 kilometres of the main alignment has been stabilised, while construction work is ongoing on piers 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11. He added that work would proceed on the remaining 18 spans once the current phase is completed.

Izeze further revealed that the contractor, Setraco Nigeria Limited, has assured the state government that beam launching would commence within the next three months.

He attributed the steady pace of work to Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to consistent funding, noting that the project is financed through an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) arrangement.

“This project has never lacked funding. Payments are made consistently and there are no outstanding liabilities, in line with the governor’s promise,” he stated.

He assured residents of Ayakoromo and Egbo-Ide communities of the government’s determination to deliver the project, describing the governor as a leader who delivers on his words.

“He may not talk much, but once he speaks, he delivers,” Izeze added.

Also speaking, Setraco’s Project Manager, Engr. Nabil Chaihin, expressed optimism that more visible progress would be recorded before the end of the year.

“We started a few months ago and have already opened several access points. By the next rainy season, around June or July, progress will be much more evident. This project is for the people, and we believe all stakeholders will be satisfied,” he said.

Chaihin commended the host communities for their cooperation, describing the working relationship as smooth and supportive.

On his part, Chairman of Ayakoromo Federated Community, Mr. Princewill Brakala, thanked Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Government for reviving and advancing the long-awaited bridge project.

He described the Ayakoromo Bridge as a critical infrastructure that would open up riverine communities, improve access to the hinterland, and boost economic activities in the area.

“This is a project we have long awaited. It will transform our community and improve connectivity. We sincerely thank His Excellency for executing this project with speed,” Brakala said.

He also appealed to the state government to consider additional road infrastructure within the community to further enhance access to major express routes.
